Ethereum researchers, including Justin Drake and Vitalik Buterin, are raising alarms about the potential rapid weakening of wallet security due to advances in AI-powered mathematics. According to The Decoder, Drake has urged the crypto industry to prepare for a scenario where AI could break wallet signature schemes like ECDSA within months.
While Buterin shares the concern, he cautions against hasty migrations, noting that he has lost more funds through problematic transitions than from actual hacks. The Decoder also highlights that, to date, no practical break of ECDSA has occurred despite these theoretical risks.
This warning comes at a critical time for Japanese markets, where institutional and retail investors alike are increasingly exposed to crypto assets, underscoring the need for prudent risk management amid evolving technological threats.
