Gongzhi Marine has successfully closed three rounds of funding amid a rising global demand for deep sea robots, according to KrASIA. The company's progress reflects growing interest in underwater exploration technologies, which are crucial for studying vast oceanic areas that have remained largely uncharted since the 19th century.

This surge in funding comes more than 160 years after the historic laying of the Cyrus West Field transatlantic telegraph cable in 1854 and its completion in August 1858. Despite covering a distance of 1.4 million kilometers and achieving over 95% coverage of the ocean floor, significant portions of the deep sea remain unexplored, driving innovation in robotic technologies.

For Japanese investors and markets, the expansion of deep sea robotics presents new opportunities within the marine technology sector, aligning with Japan’s strategic interests in maritime innovation and offshore resource development.
