Chinese automaker BYD has decided to abandon its initial plan to establish a standalone assembly plant in Malaysia. Instead, the company is now engaged in advanced discussions with a local partner to produce vehicles in the country, according to KrASIA.
Jacob Ma, managing director of BYD Malaysia, disclosed this strategic shift during a media briefing on September 10, 2025. The original plan to build the plant in Tanjung Malim, Perak state, had been announced just a month earlier in August 2025.
This move reflects BYD’s adaptive approach amid evolving regional manufacturing dynamics.
