Anthropic has drastically reduced its hiring of junior technical staff, reflecting a broader shift in workforce dynamics driven by AI. According to The Decoder, the proportion of junior positions among new hires fell sharply from 27% in early 2025 to just 9%.
By August 2026, AI agents employed across Anthropic were logging six times as many working hours as their human counterparts, The Decoder reported. This indicates a substantial increase in reliance on AI to perform technical tasks traditionally handled by entry-level employees.
For Japanese markets, where automation and AI integration are rapidly advancing, Anthropic’s move highlights the growing impact of AI on labor structures and hiring practices within tech companies, potentially influencing workforce strategies across the region.
