Anthropic’s AI system Claude has independently designed and tested protein binders aimed at neutralizing lethal neurotoxins produced by scorpions. According to The Decoder, Claude generated over 318,000 protein binder designs, of which 211 were experimentally tested in the lab.

From these tests, 17 designs met the required criteria for effectiveness, with two showing exceptionally strong binding affinity to Cn2, a toxin derived from the Mexican scorpion. However, it remains uncertain whether these binders can function effectively as antivenoms in practical applications, The Decoder reported.

This development highlights the growing role of AI-driven biotech innovation, a trend that Japanese markets are closely monitoring for potential impacts on pharmaceutical and synthetic biology sectors.
